Nepal Kitchen Farming Project
Our newest project.:
Nepal kitchen farming training project 2027-2032
As you know, a central part of Nepal was hit by a massive flood of ice, water, rocks, and a great
deal of mud on August 26. Following the emergency relief, Nepalese society faces the challenges of
reconstruction. Due to poverty, some families find themselves forced to entrust one or both of their
daughters to people who promise them the world. FBND has been dedicated to this cause for years,
now with a new project.
Training women to grow their own vegetables is a long-held wish of FBND. We have now started
preparations for a five-year kitchen farming project for 100 (primarily young) women in Nepal.
To realize this initiative, we are entirely dependent on funds and donations. We would be very
grateful if you would consider supporting this project with a one-time or monthly contribution.
What
In the five-year 'Nepal kitchen farming training project', which starts in October 2027, 100 Nepalese women will be trained to grow their own vegetables organically. Each year, a new group of at least 25 women will be trained and mentored.
Who
ASSN will coordinate and execute the project.
FBND offers financial and practical support and assistance.
A project team led by LekkerBoer will assist with the preparation of the project from the Netherlands.
Why?
Training vulnerable girls and women to take good care of themselves and their families by growing healthy food and generating an income, so that they do not end up in human trafficking or prostitution.
Where
In the Butwal region of Nepal. Butwal serves as a major commercial gateway and transit hub in western Nepal, close to the open border with India. The high level of local poverty and limited education make women and families in the area vulnerable to misleading job offers from abroad.
How
The women receive basic training from ASSN in which they learn about a healthy diet, how to grow their own organic vegetables, and how to harvest their own seeds. They also learn how to organize this within a cooperative. They can purchase organic seeds through a loan, microcredit, or sponsorship. A cooperative is established that is active from the start of the training. The project is coordinated and supervised for five years by a local leader and dedicated supervisors who are present in the community and know it.
Costs
To make this project possible, in addition to ASSN volunteers, five Nepalese trainers, ten supervisors, and a local leader are deployed for training and guidance over a period of five years. Furthermore, the necessary land is leased, water systems are installed, and seeds, fertilizers, and gardening materials (including tunnel greenhouses) are purchased. Finally, there are accommodation costs for the women during the training week. The costs per woman amount to 500 euros for the first year
of training.
